open mic suggestions?

I've been surfing the net looking at possible open mics, and just the idea of being in front of people performing something I've written is freaking me out.

Anyone in the Portland, OR area with suggestions for beginner-friendly open mics?

I'll probably chicken out.

Performing instrumentally is nothing new to me, but singing? Eek!

  1. i know wat u mean, there's a couple open mic/cultural night things at my uni coming up and I so wanna try to do something, but too chicken...just not enough guts lol, I mean I've played classical piano in front of ppl a few times before (and still had crazy stage fright everytime and stuffed things up) but singing in front of ppl freaks me out more than anything ever (and would turn out horridly due to that).

sorry I'm not even in the same country lol, but good luck and hope you find something good to try out! <3

  2. Two months later, and I *still* haven't been able to push myself to attend an open mic, let alone be a part of one.

I know what you mean about piano versus singing on stage. If your breathing is erratic due to nerves, it doesn't affect the piano playing very much. But with singing it's critical to have control over breathing pattern - the instrument is your adrenaline filled body.
